The oxidative chlorodecarboxylation of carboxylic acids using lead(IV) acetate in combination with a chloride salt has been investigated as a solid-state reaction.[‌3‌] The reactions are run in the absence of a solvent at room temperature by keeping a thoroughly stirred mixture of the acid 6, lead(IV) acetate, and ammonium chloride (1:1.1:4 molar ratio) for several days. Examples of such reactions and yields of the resulting chloroalkanes 7 are summarized in Scheme 4.
