Great progress has been made in the selective synthesis of geminal bishydroperoxides directly from ketones or aldehydes and hydrogen peroxide, overcoming the problems with this route mentioned in Section 38.11.2. A wide range of Brønsted and Lewis acids have been used as catalysts, and methods using heterogeneous supported catalysts have also been developed.
