General Introduction
SAFETY: In all reactions in which peroxides are used the organic phase containing the product should be checked for peroxide content before evaporation. Commercially available peroxide test strips can be used for this purpose. If the solution still contains peroxides, these should be destroyed before evaporation by prolonged stirring with a reductant, such as sodium thiosulfate solution. Severe explosions have been reported upon concentration of peroxide-containing solutions. Catecholborane is highly flammable, can cause burns, and reacts violently with water. Care must be taken when distilling it due to the flammable and corrosive nature of the compound.
