Le Bras, J.; Muzart, J.Science of Synthesis: Cross Coupling and Heck-Type Reactions, (20133185.

The dehydrogenative Heck reaction[‌38‌] of allylic esters and carbonates with arenes arises using palladium(II) acetate as the catalyst and with the silver(I) carbonate/benzo-1,4-quinone/air association as a reoxidation system upon heating in an organic acid (Scheme 24).[‌39‌] This procedure obviates the use of a functionalized arylating agent, but requires the presence of the arene in a large excess to give reasonable yields.
