In contrast to the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones described above, there are only a few examples known of the successful asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of aliphatic ketones, possibly due to (i) lack of reactivity of aliphatic ketones compared to aromatic ketones, (ii) ease of reverse oxidation from the aliphatic alcohol products that leads to a decrease in conversion and enantioselectivity, and (iii) difficult discrimination between the two alkyl groups unlike in the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones, in which enantioselection is governed by the CH/π interaction between the substrate and the catalyst family of half-sandwich complexes.[‌62‌,‌85‌‌87‌]
