[Ti(Cp)2X2] (115, X = Br, I) and the permethylated derivatives [Ti(Cp*)2X2] can be reduced by cobaltocene in hydrocarbon solvents under mild conditions (Scheme 59).[140] Whereas the reduction of 115 (X = Cl) with cobaltocene under a carbon monoxide atmosphere gives a mixture of [Ti(Cp)2(CO)2] (102) and [{Co(Cp)2}{Ti(Cp)2X2}], the more labile bromo and iodo complexes 115 (X = Br, I) react cleanly under these conditions to give [Ti(Cp)2(CO)2] (102) and [Co(Cp)2X] in good yields.
