Reaction of titanium–aluminum complex 1 (arene = toluene) with disubstituted alkynes gives cyclobutadiene complexes 165 (Scheme 84).[304] The crystal structure of one of these complexes has been determined. The tetrabromoaluminato moiety can be substituted by reaction with dipotassium cyclooctatetraene to give [Ti(η4-C4Ph4)(η4-cot)], and with cyclopentadienylthallium to give the titanacyclopentadiene complex [Ti(Cp)2(η2-C4Ph4)].[304]
