The reaction of 6-halo-5,5-dimethylhex-1-enes with potassium diphenylphosphide provides evidence to support a single-electron transfer (SET) in the reaction of potassium diphenylphosphide with alkyl halides (Scheme 45). Single-electron transfer is the major reaction pathway in the reaction of the hindered alkyl iodide, but is a minor pathway in the reaction of the corresponding bromide and chloride.[58]
