Sodium borohydride reduces carboxylic acid chlorides to the corresponding alcohols. To attenuate its reducing power, the use of sodium borohydride in dimethylformamide and pyridine has been reported; however, these methods have not found general application.[‌27‌,‌28‌] On the other hand, transition metal borohydrides such as copper,[‌29‌,‌30‌] zinc,[‌31‌] and cadmium borohydrides[‌32‌,‌33‌] have been used occasionally for this purpose.
