Dimethylamides, such as dimethylacetamide, were used as early as 1955/1956 for the acylation of alkyllithium and Grignard reagents to give the corresponding ketones in moderate to good yields.[212,213] Since then, many other amides have been used. N-Methoxy-N-methylamides (Weinreb amides), which are readily prepared and give high yields of ketones on acylation with several organometallic reagents, are now used extensively in ketone synthesis.[214]
