Lithium tetrabromonickelate(II) in tetrahydrofuran offers a soft nucleophilic bromine and is therefore able to open epoxides 47 to bromo alcohols 48 and 49 without attacking other acid- or base-sensitive groups (Scheme 19).[51] There are very few examples for the use of lithium tetrabromonickelate(II) in the literature, yet some natural products can be synthesized using this method.
