There are numerous methods for preparing conjugated vinylic cycloalkenes that involve alkenation reactions, alkene metathesis, metal-mediated coupling reactions, or cycloisomerizations. Some metal-mediated transformations of acyclic enynes or allenynes into 1,3-dienes are included in this section illustrating, in particular, the important role that electrophilic metal complexes (of Pd, Pt, Au, Ru, etc.) play in catalyzing such cycloisomerizations.
