Dienynes have the same degree of unsaturation as the homologous allenynes so it is not surprising that, in the presence of transition-metal complexes, these polyunsaturated compounds are good candidates for cycloisomerizations. Such substrates include simple dienynes[196,178] and, for example, the diester 214 gives the corresponding bicyclic transannular diene 216 in 72% yield when gold complex 215 is employed as the catalyst (Scheme 74).[196]
