The carboxylation of alkyl (pseudo)halides with carbon dioxide typically involves the use of transition-metal catalysts, which undergo oxidative addition with the alkyl (pseudo)halide substrates. The generated reactive alkylmetal intermediates promote subsequent carboxylation with carbon dioxide. Over the years, many transition-metal catalysts have been explored for this transformation and have been found to confer unique reactivity to afford a variety of alkanoic acid derivatives.
