Organocascade processes,[‌25‌,‌183‌‌186‌] in which several individual iminium- and enamine-catalyzed reactions are carried out in a one-pot operation, provide a powerful method for the preparation of highly functionalized, enantioenriched products from simple starting materials. This area of organocatalysis has received a wealth of attention from the synthetic community and has generated a vast collection of procedures that have merged almost all of the individual iminium and enamine reactions into one-pot operations comprising two or more CC or CX bond constructions. Cascade processes have continually grown to increase the numbers of individual bond-forming events and the order in which they take place, furnishing extremely impressive synthetic processes that resemble the continuous enzymatic assembly lines found within biological systems, the inspiration from which the concept was first founded.
